From the documentary series Body Bizarre, Ylena travels to Barcelona to undergo surgery with Dr Vicenç Gilete.
The original poster of this video recorded it from a screen. Although a little unstable at times it is still fine to watch. It was the only version available which could be linked freely and which is in English
Although some of Julie’s symptoms are similar to Ylena’s, she fortunately doesn’t have the severe gastrointestinal and waste excretion issues which Ylena has. Julie requires both of the surgeries featured in this documentary plus an additional surgery to stabilise more of her cervical spine, to repair damaged discs, and to remove sharp bony protrusions, osteophytes, which have grown inside her spine column.
Maartje’s Now in Less Pain
Maartje has Ehlers Danlos Syndrome, a connective tissue disorder. The connective tissue in her body is too weak for it to function correctly. As it exists throughout the entire body, it affects everything. This surgery was performed to reduce her brainstem based symptoms which resulted from her spine being too weak to hold up her head and so her brainstem was crushed. It doesn’t solve all of her EDS symptoms as they originate in her connective tissue. It reduced her symptoms dramatically enough to give her a good quality of life.
